“What Not to Do with a Hamster”

Before the break, we decided we wanted a class pet after we read the story, “Flowers for Algernon” and we watched the movie Charley. We decided to get a hamster and we asked Mr. Majeski. He said we had to make sure we take care of it and create a plan to take care of it. In the following paragraphs we will try to convince Mr. Majeksi to let us get a hamster. I feel we should get one because it teaches us responsibility, we researched how to care for it, and we all love animals. We read an article and it told us how to care for it. Furthermore I hope to convince you to let us get a hamster. We all have to collaborate with each other.

In the first place, we all love animals. We all have or had a pet in our life. In class we always talk about animals. We also researched hamsters. We learned a lot of new things about the hamster. Another reason why we should get a hamster is because it teaches us responsibity to take care of a living thing. It is ethical to make sure it’s healthy and also to let it be when it sleeps. Another reason why it teaches us responsibly is we have to be quieter because it is nocturnal. When having the hamster during the weekend we have to very vigil. This means it sleeps during the day and is awake at night. These are only some reasons why I think we should get a hamster, but in my next paragraph I will talk about how to care for it.

In addition, this is how you care for a hamster. One thing you have to make sure of when raising a hamster is make sure it’s healthy. If you buy a sick hamster you might not know how to take care for it. Another thing you have to know about hamsters is to keep their cage away from the sun. Believe me, when I was little I had a hamster and my mom said, “Cristina I am going to put the hamster outside to let it get some air.”

So I went outside to check on my hamster I saw it just lying on its back. That was the end of Sammy 2. After that one day, my friend and I were outside with our hamsters. My neighbor and his friend came over my house, so I brought my hamster outside and the four of us were talking. My neighbor’s friend said, “Can I see your hamster?”
I said “sure.”
So I gave him the hamster and the ball and he threw the ball into the street.  A car started coming and the ball went right under and so did the hamster. That was the end of Sammy 1. Another thing you have to know is what kind of hamster to get. My two hamsters were dwarf hamsters. They were really small and very playful. I think we should get a dwarf hamster because they are very small and very cute. In my next paragraph I will talk about the responsibitys.

Something we all have to know is how to care for it. We need a plan to tell us who’s taking it home for the weekend and what to do. One thing you have to make sure of is that they have enough food and water. If they aren’t eating or drinking you know they are sick. Some hamsters are allergic to some of the bedding. That’s how one of my hamsters died. You have to make sure they aren’t allergic to the bedding. When picking out a hamster make sure you ask the person if they are allergic to any kind of bedding. My last thing is you have to make sure they are active. If they aren’t active they could die very easily because they need exercise to keep healthy. The hamster could be very audacious. When having a hamster you have to make sure they don’t get out of their cage. It could try to get out of its cage. When you get a hamster you have you make sure you have locks on the cage.

The reason you should let us get a hamster is because we all love animals, and we all have or had a pet in our lives. Even though I talked about my hamsters dying there were a lot of good things about them. When you have a hamster for a long time it becomes part of your family. Before I got my hamster my mom hated animals. When we got my first hamster she didn’t hate them but didn’t like them. By the time I got my last hamster I could tell my mom was very sad when it died. These are the reasons why I think we should get a hamster for this class. To me I think it would help more people in my class to like school more because they get to see a furry little animal.

Hamster Rational

A few weeks ago, we decided we wanted a class pet after we read “Flowers of Algernon” and watched the movie charley.  We decided to get a hamster, and we asked Mr. Majeski. He said, “that we had to make up a plan to take care of the hamster.” In the following paragraphs I hope to convince Mr. Majeski that we should get a hamster. I feel that we should get a hamster because it would teach us responsibility, we took the time to research how to take care of it, and we love animals. We read different types of articles about hamsters, so clearly then we should get a hamster because of our hard work.
Basically, we will take very good care of the hamster, this will teach us responsibility because we will have to learn how to take care of it. Learning about an animal is good because we research interesting stuff on them and learn about their type of life. It keeps class interesting because instead of being bored and unfocused if we come and see this animal we will be focused and not bored. Also we need to be very vigil toward it. Additionally this animal will teach us a lot.
Generally, there are many factors to consider when choosing a hamster. One of the factors is keeping the hamster healthy, such as feeding it right, giving it a lot of water, giving it care, and a lot of exercise. The second thing is that choosing the right home. This is a big factor because with a good home is a good hamster because if the hamster likes the home hopefully this hamster will adapt well. The third thing is what type of hamster we are getting? We have to find which one lives longest, also which ones to good alone and which ones do better with another. Furthermore, we are ready to get this hamster.
In the same way, I will tell you how we will take care of the hamster. One, we will give it a really good environment. We will do this by showing love and being nice. The seconded one is the bedding; the bedding has to be very soft. We should                                                                                                                               use materials such as soft tissue or like towels. The third thing is food and water. We should give it a lot of water in one of those bottles that hang from the cage so it is easy to drink out of it. We give it a lot of water so he/she can drink after exercises. Also get tasty foods for the hamster. Following this further, we know how to treat and take care of the hamster.
As stated in the previous paragraphs, I think we should get a hamster. I think we should get it because I never had an ample amount of pets. I have only had a fish. It was not that difficult to take care of because it really didn’t do anything. Our class wanted a ferret because they were cool animals but they would be too much work that’s why we decided to get a hamster. So now I am ready to care of a hamster. I believe that I am capable of taking care of the hamster. Lastly I would like to say we are ready for the hamster and this hamster will be in good hands. I am ready because I believe that I would take very good care of this hamster and never let anything happen to it. Furthermore I hope we are allowed to get this hamster. Thank you.

Hamster Rationale

A few weeks ago, we decided we wanted to get a class pet after we read the story, “Flower for Algernon” and watched the movie Charly. We decided to get a hamster and we asked Mr. Majeski if it was okay and he told us to make a plan. In the following paragraph it shows why we should get a hamster.  We all love animals and we researched how to care for them. We read articles about hamsters and it told us how to care of them. Moreover, in the following paragraphs, we will prove to you that we can take care of a hamster.

Basically, this class deserves to have a hamster. If we get a hamster, we will learn about what it likes what to do.   Also,  it will keep the class interesting because you can play with them, you can put them in a ball, and watch them roll around the room.  It will teach you about responsibility because you have to take care of it by feeding it and making sure it has water. Also, the hamster makes you feel genial. In general, this is the benefits of getting a class hamster.

Furthermore, there are many factors involved in getting a hamster,  such as,  if there is too much noise,  the hamster will cower. When you get a hamster you should make sure it is healthy.   You can tell this if it is alert,  curious and active. Also,  you have to know what type of shelter to provide.  You can get a cage,  fish tank or a plastic cage. In my opinion, I think a plastic cage will be better because it is open.

Consequently,  if the class wants  a hamster,  we need to how to take care of a hamster because it is under our jurisdiction.  First , it has to be active and interact with people. For it to be active you have to take it out have its cage and play with or you can put it in the ball, and he could roll around the room. You also have to make sure his bedding is clean. You have to gives the hamster food and water. You have to make sue the water is always fresh. Before you get the hamster, you have to prepare for it, and do research about it, and see what it likes and what it doesn’t like. Hamsters do not like being in direct sunlight or near heat sources and should be free from drafts. Their cage should be raised off the floor and on a shelf or table. Hamsters should have a good depth of wood shavings in the cage so they can burrow in this. You should line the cage with aspen or other hardwood shavings, but avoid cedar shavings.

In final consideration, I had three dogs, four hamsters, three cats, one lizard, one bunny and six fish. They lived a long time. My first hamster lived about five years. Her name was Debbie. She used to break out of her cage, so we had to put a lock on the cage so she couldn’t get out to keep her in close proximity.   Therefore, I thing I could take care of this hamster because all of my pets lived a long time.

“Hamster Rationale Final Copy”

In early December, we were aghast when Mr. McNanna said we should get a pet hamster. We decided to have a class pet because we read the story “Flowers for Algernon” and watched the movie Charly. We decided to get a hamster,
and we asked Mr.Majeski. He us to think of a plan and do research on the hamster.
In the other paragraphs I hope to convince Mr. Majeski that we need a hamster. I feel
that we should get one  because it teaches responsibility. We researched how to care
for it (we read a aritacle on hamsters), and it will be a positive thing. In addition,
we should  really get a hamster. In the following paragraphs I will articulate how I researched hamsters and how the class will take care of it.

Generally, a hamster is a good pet to have.   A hamster little , cute ,  chubby, and it will jump like crazy.   Also, this pet will keep the class interesting.  The hamster will entertain us by running in his wheel and he is going to run through a tunnel. The things that pets do is crazy. Plus it is a good pet to have. It teaches a lot of responsibility. You have to follow the guidelines of having a pet. For instance, a hamster can’t bask the sun because it will die if it stays in there to long. Put the hamster in a shady place. I found this information in a hamster article

Furthermore, a hamster should be chosen wisely. Make sure it is heathly by checking its demeanor and condition. You must clean its cage every day so it doesn’t get sick. To clean cage you must change bedding, clean bathroom for hamster. There are also three shelters to consider cages, plastic cages, and aquariums. In my opinion, wire cages are better than plastic cages because the hamster can’t get out.

In addition, There are many responsibilities of taking care of a hamster. For
for one thing you have to feed  it all the time. Second, you must give it water every
day. You must keep it active all the time. Threedly, the bedding and shelter must be
changed every day. To remind ourselves we are going to make a list saying what we must do to take care of the hamster. The whole class is going to make the list. It will tell the responsibilities of taking care of a hamster. As you can see a hamster is a lot of responsibilities.

In the final analysis, learning about hamsters is the best thing for a kid because they are very interesting. A pet will always keep people occupied. I have a pet cat at home named Tiki. I have had Tiki now for three years and he is a very healthy and happy cat. I feed Tiki everyday and keep his litter box clean. That is why I feel I could take care of a hamster in the classroom, and that is why I feel we should get a hamster.

Hamster Rationale
By PR 1/13/09

Generally the question of getting a hamster came up around a month ago. The process we have gone through is as follows: we talked about getting a class pet, and then we went through a list of animals to consider; we finally decided on a hamster. Now we just need to convince our principal (dun dun dun). My opinion on this matter is that we should get a hamster because everyone in our class loves animals. A hamster will teach responsibility for one, I think a hamster would make class more fun, and everyone in our class loves animals! Our class as a whole read an article on hamster ownership to research how best to care for this animal. We learned about what type of bedding it needs, what to feed it, and that we should think on what type of hamster to buy. Clearly then, are becoming prepared for this hamster.
Assuredly, there are benefits to owning this hamster such as there is with any pet. First, this hamster will teach the students about animals which comes in handy with many things through life. Second the hamster will keep class interesting, which might help students with short attention spans to pay closer attention. Third this will teach responsibility to the students, which is something everyone will benefit from. The hamster will teach students about habits of animals along with survival mechanisms. It keeps class interesting because of the things it will do and because it will be fun to watch. It teaches responsibility through just us caring for it. What is better to teach responsibility than a creature depending on you to live? Lastly, this hamster is a teacher in it’s own way, it teaches life lessons as well as just teaching natural things about life.
Of course, there are factors to consider when choosing a hamster. First we need to choose a healthy hamster to buy. To know if the hamster is healthy we must be vigil in it’s appearance and avoid hamsters that are quiet or lethargic, we must also look inside the cage for any evidence of the hamster being unhealthy. We do not want a glut hamster either now do we? Also if it is unhealthy it may cower in its cage to avoid contact. If the hamster’s attitude is volatile we should bring him to a vet if this developed after its purchase. Second we need to find which shelter is best for our hamster. Third we must make sure we are getting the best breed of hamster for us. These reasons are important because say we get an unhealthy hamster, it might die before it gets better. If the shelter is not right it might escape. If we get a hamster that is not right for our climate it might cause problems in the hamsters growth. Thus these factors are vital to the survival of our hamster.
In general, these are the responsibilities of taking care of a hamster. For one we must keep its shelter clean and healthy. We also must set up a schedule to care for it. Most importantly we must make sure it gets proper food and water. When a hamster’s shelter is not clean and healthy the hamster may become sick. If we do not set up a schedule the hamster may go uncared for at times. If we do not give it proper food and water the hamster may starve, dehydrate, and become mal-nurtured. Indeed these responsibilities are the dividing line between life and death for our hamster.
No doubt this is my hamster rationale. I like animals because no matter how you feel, they are there for you. Through good and bad they continue to show love towards their owners. I am reminded of the care I have taken for numerous animals in the past, such as my dog Max, who has passed. Max was such a good dog that you could just open the door when he needed to go out. We had no fence, no hidden gate, just a normal lawn yet he would not run away. I know that with me, Max meant a great deal, and I hope this hamster will do the same with our class.
